The prostate is an organ present only in males, located in the genitourinary tract, and closely related to the bladder, urethra, and seminal vesicle.

The prostate is a round-shaped gland that is about 3 cm high, 4 cm long and 2 cm wide, totaling a volume of approximately 15-20 grams. The prostate is located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum (the end of the large intestine). Attached to the prostate are the seminal vesicles, organs responsible for the production of part of the fluid present in sperm (see the figure to the side to better understand where the prostate is). Inside the prostate passes the urethra, a channel that drains urine from the bladder towards the penis. Also inside the prostate pass the vas deferens, which are the channels that bring the sperm produced by the testicles. The vas deferens flow into the urethra inside the prostate.
