Why did the government act quickly to end union-led strikes?

There was this belief on both sides of the table. You didn’t strike because it was dishonest to call out of work when you weren’t sick & you couldn’t afford to be out a day anyway because that meant no pay & no food for your family. Bear in mind, this was the day before “contractual working obligations.” They could fire you for no reason & often did.
The government stepping in to end these strikes quickly helped people on both sides of the table. Bosses & workers alike. Otherwise, more people out of work, more starving families. Bear in mind, this is also the era before Welfare & Workers Comp were created.
