Recend findings showed that DES-cells are not neuroectodermal but have ectodermal, mesodermal, and entodermal ontogeny. The article reviews novel concept of diffuse endocrine system anatomy and physiology, functional role of DES hormones and poorly investigated aspects like DES-cell morphology, hormones secretion in normal and pathologic conditions. Further research of diffuse endocrine system has a great significance for biochemistry, morphology, and clinical medicine.</italic></p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p><italic>Диффузная эндокринная система — крупнейшее звено эндокринной системы позвоночных животных. В последние годы появились убедительные данные в пользу того, что клетки диффузной эндокринной системы имеют не нейроэктодермальное происхождение, а развиваются из экто-, мезо- и энтодермы. Рассмотрена современная концепция ее структурно-функциональной организации, значение в регуляции функций организма и нерешенные проблемы ее биологии, к которым относится не только гистогенез клеток, но и строение диффузной эндокринной системы, функциональное значение продуцируемых гормонов, а также процессы секреции гормонов в норме и при различных патологиях, что имеет большое научно-практическое значение как для биохимии и морфологии, так и для многих клинических дисциплин.</italic></p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>diffuse endocrine system</kwd><kwd>hormones</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>диффузная эндокринная система</kwd><kwd>гормоны</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group/></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>1.
